Pros
VO2 Coffee Roasters is a new Kentucky-based roaster. As I’ve always said, some of the best coffees I’ve drank in the last few years have come from micro-roasters, so I was quite excited to try the offerings from VO2. All of the coffees I tried were top-notch, but it was this Colombian Golden Drops that was one of the most unique coffees I’ve had recently. VO2 sourced this coffee from Forest Coffee, which is where I sourced the latest Pull & Pour Coffee Club special release, Gesha Spirits.
The coffee began with a strong & unique baking spice aroma. It really reminded me of fall in a glass and I was incredibly excited to dive in. The aroma did not mislead the flavor profile, which was full of baking spices, cardamon, and ginger. It was incredibly unique and almost had a spicy note to it (likely coming from the ginger notes toward the finish). It had a full body and a super smooth, balanced profile. The sweetness was rich, honey & caramel-toned, and paired surprisingly well with the baking spice notes.
The Bottom Line
I love exploring fun and unique coffees and this Colombian Golden Drops definitely checked both of those boxes. It had lovely complexity and left a great first impression of VO2 Coffee Roasters.
