Pros
Blue Bottle always has a solid line-up of single origin offerings, but they also offer special releases of “coffees that rattle their expectations” in their Exceedingly Rare lineup. This anaerobic coffee from Colombia was the August 2021 release for their Exceedingly Rare offering.
From first opening the bag it was clear this was going to be a special coffee. The fragrance was so sweet and rich and full of raspberry and tropical fruit notes. During brewing when aromatics tend to get a bit more muted, their was still incredible sweet, fruit notes that came through. The flavor was truly mouthwatering with a complex and juicy profile that reminded me of strawberry jam, raspberries and pineapple. The coffee had a sweet citrus acidity and medium body. The tropical fruit-toned sweetness was pronounced, exciting and reminded me of kiwis. The fruity sweetness lingered into the finish where floral undertones also came through.
The Bottom Line
This anaerobic Colombian coffee was a truly special coffee. Its complex fruit profile and incredible sweetness were exciting to explore. I’m excited to see what coffees come up next in the Exceedingly Rare offering.
