Pros

  • Complex profile
  • Intensity of attributes

Cons

  • Expensive & limited

Wush Wush coffee is varied and unique. I’ve tried a variety of Wush Wush’s throughout the years and they never disappoint and are always unique. This Colombian El Zafiro was actually a repeat for me from the same coffee I tried from Proud Mary earlier this year. I was thankful for the opportunity to try it again because it’s an incredibly special coffee.

The coffee began with an intensely boozy and tropical fruit-heavy aroma. The flavor carried through with the intensity and featured wild notes of pineapple, very sweet papaya, and layers of floral notes. The coffee sat heavy in the mouth with a medium body. The acidity was most present in the sides of the mouth and was pronounced through every sip. The sweetness was one of my favorite attributes of the coffee. It was fruit-forward, citrus-toned, and very strong. The finish featured lingering sweetness and a final “hurrah” of the boozy attributes found throughout the experience.

The Bottom Line

My encore of this Wush Wush was a special one. The complex fruit notes and intensity of the attributes were a treat and I enjoyed every brew of this “exceedingly rare” coffee from Blue Bottle.
