Geisha coffees are some of the most prized after coffees in the specialty market. They can go for as much as hundreds of dollars per pound and are consistently more expensive than other varieties. I’ve tried a wide range of geishas through the years and in my opinion what makes a geisha “worth the cost” is a pairing of big floral and fruit notes that come together to create a complex and sophisticated coffee. That was exactly what I found in this Panama Geisha from LAMILL Coffee.
The coffee began with a sweet & rich fragrance of strawberry, cherries, and peaches. The flavor was absolutely wonderful with decadent notes of berries, sweet florals, and subtle tropical fruit notes. The coffee had a medium body that was rich with a syrupy mouthfeel. The sweetness was fruit-toned but had supporting floral notes and the finish lingered with the weight of the coffee on your tongue after each sip. There was a beautiful balance to the coffee that found a perfect dance between the fruit and floral notes throughout each sip.
The Bottom Line
This geisha was truly lovely. It was wonderfully sweet, beautifully complex, and perfectly balanced. I savored every brew with this one.
