Pros

  • Vibrant & rich profile
  • Complex fruit flavor profile

Cons

  • Limited & expensive

Sudan Rume is a rare coffee variety and one I’ve only tried once before. Its a vibrant, slightly exotic variety that is unique and delicious. I was excited to have an opportunity to try it again with this Reserve offering from Corvus Coffee.

The coffee began with a berry-forward, somewhat tropical fragrance that was very sweet and quite complex. The flavor was incredibly complex, sweet and vibrant. It featured rich notes of dark berries, complex fruit notes, spices and subtle tropical fruit. As the coffee cooled, the fruit notes evolved beautifully and became even sweeter. It had a lively acidity that was fairly steady throughout. The mouthfeel was a bit heavier with a punchy sweetness. The cup had a definite intensity too it, but was able to maintain its balance quite well. The aftertaste was slow and steady with a minty fruit finish.

The Bottom Line

This Sudan Rume from Corvus Coffee was truly deserving of the “Reserve” label. Its complexity and vibrancy was incredible and it was one of the best coffees I’ve enjoyed this year to date.
