Pros

  • Tropical fruit notes from aroma to finish
  • Intense sweetness

Ross Street Coffee Roasters is based in Iowa and is known to pack a punch with their Nicaraguan coffees. I loved their Gold Mountain Brix Breaker last year, which was one of the sweetest coffees I have ever tried. For that reason, I was excited to try two of their current Nicaraguan options this fall. “Fruity Symphony” is a great summary for this coffee, which is a single micro-lot and another Gold Mountain coffee.

The coffee began with a sweet, fairly strong fragrance that was floral and full of tropical fruit notes. The flavor was wonderfully sweet and floral with prominent notes of tropical fruit (pineapple, papaya, mango). It had a grapefruit acidity that was tart, but balanced nicely with the rich, fruity sweetness. The mouthfeel was smooth with a medium body. The tropical fruit notes lingered into the finish along with the sweet-tart acidity.

The Bottom Line

Roger & Isabel’s Fruity Symphony was another great expression of a great Nicaraguan coffee. While it maybe didn’t top Brix Breaker last year in sweetness, it was still an incredibly sweet coffee with exciting tropical fruit notes that were defining element from beginning to end.
