Pros
In January of this year the second National Yemen Coffee Auction took place. I sampled all of the lots from the auction and was truly impressed by their quality. There were a few of the lots that especially caught my attention and I wanted to do everything I could to share them with others in the Pull & Pour Coffee Club. I was lucky enough to win two of the lots (you can read about the process here)—the only United States company to win a lot. The first lot I released as a special release in February and this is the second lot—dropping as Special Release 011. The entire lot was only 47lb, so this truly is a microlot coffee that can’t be found anywhere else. This coffee will be available through the coffee club on Monday, April 8. Once the lot sells out there is no more of the coffee anywhere in the world. Be sure to join the free coffee club before the release to have a chance to pick up this incredibly special coffee.
Here’s a bit more about my experience with the coffee:
The coffee begins with rustic aromatics of pomegranate and citrus. The flavor profile is so incredibly complex it’s hard to isolate to only a few adjectives. It has a complex earthiness I’ve only ever found in Yemen coffee, but also a bright citrus profile that reminded me of starfruit and blood orange. The mouthfeel is quite heavy and envelops your palette with every sip. There is also an underlying sweet spice that was present in the first featured lot that reminds me of sweet pipe tobacco and is classically Yemen in nature. As the coffee cools the flavors evolve leading you on a wild ride both within every sip and through each cup. It’s a coffee I could enjoy every morning and never get bored.
The Bottom Line
Overall I am so excited to be able to share this rare and outstanding coffee with the club. The coffee is extremely limited with only 195 jars available. To have a chance to pick it up, be sure to join the free Pull & Pour Coffee Club. If you missed this special release, the second Yemen drop will be coming in a few months—as well as many other amazing coffees. Be sure to join the coffee club to not miss any future offerings!
