All of Lifeboost coffees are organic, single origin, and grown using sustainable farming methods in the mountains of Nicaragua. They offer a range of coffees from light to dark roasts, as well as a variety of flavored coffees. I tend to stick with light roast options, so I tried the lightest of their offerings—Optimist.
The coffee began with a roast-forward, dark chocolate fragrance. Upon the first sips, the big, robust body and thick mouthfeel made the biggest impressions. The flavor carried more of the roast profile from the fragrance with notes of dark chocolate and almonds. The coffee was very well-balanced and approachable and fairly muted in its acidity. The sweetness was chocolate and caramel-toned and supported the thick mouthfeel. The finish of each sip featured smooth chocolate notes.
The Bottom Line
While the Optimist was a bit darker than I expected for a light roast, it was very approachable and I enjoyed the big body behind it. If you enjoy a coffee that has some deep chocolate tones and robust bodies, this is a great one to try. It also has some nice certifications to accompany it as well including organic and non-GMO.
