Pros

  • Strawberry floral combination
  • Great warm weather iced option

Rozali Coffee is a German-based roaster led by David Rozali. I recently was able to participate in an Instagram Live session with David, Norbey Quimbayo (the producer of this Colombian coffee) and Felix & Nicole from Graycano. It was an incredibly exciting conversation about this coffee and you can watch it here.

This coffee was a pink bourbon variety, which has quickly become one of my favorite for the strong fruit/floral notes it can produce. As such, the coffee began with a fruit-forward, strawberry-orange fragrance with subtle hibiscus undertones. The flavor was extremely crisp with strong berry notes (strawberry, blueberry & raspberry) and citrus undertones. The sweetness was primarily fruit-forward and evolved nicely as the coffee cooled. The mouthfeel was light & crisp and lent itself perfectly to enjoying the coffee iced as a flash brew.

I really enjoyed the layered fruit notes of the coffee and the floral + fruit combination added some wonderful complexity that was a lot of fun to enjoy.

The Bottom Line

Norbey Quimbayo represents the growing number of Colombian producers who are pushing the limits of what is possible with coffee and delivering amazing results. Getting to enjoy this coffee and have a conversation with the Colombian producer, the German roaster and the US consumer (me) once again reminded me of the beautiful international nature of coffee.
