Pros
Blue Jean Coffee is a new roaster that just launched at the beginning of this month. I was able to try a sampling of the coffees they launched with, which ranged from single origin options like this to darker roasted blends and espresso roasts.
This coffee began with a fragrance that reminded me of dark chocolate, graham crackers and citrus sweetness. The flavor carried much of the same with chocolate, almonds, graham cracker and lemon citrus being the dominate flavor notes I noticed. There was a lovely chocolate citrus sweetness with a strong boost to the citrus sweetness as the coffee cooled. The coffee had a creamy, medium to full body and was extremely clean and well-balanced. There wasn’t a ton of complexity to the cup, but worked nicely in the various pour over methods I tried. I wasn’t able to try it as cold brew, but think it would have performed quite well there as well.
The Bottom Line
I love seeing new specialty roasters come into the scene and I enjoyed sampling Blue Jean’s selection of coffee. This Nicaragua Jinotega Zestful Life is a great option for someone who enjoys a more balanced and approachable cup of coffee. The creamy chocolate paired with the citrus sweetness created a wonderful profile I really enjoyed.
