Mega Rare Colombia Wush Wush Honey – Roast House

Today’s featured coffee for the Pull & Pour Coffee Club is this incredibly special Colombian Wush Wush from Roast House in Spokane, Washington. The Wush Wush variety is a special one that originated in Ethiopia and was transplanted to South America around 30 years ago. Roast House describes this coffee as “a tropical punch in your mouth—but in the most delightful way.” I agree!

The coffee began with an explosion of fruit notes in the fragrance and aromatics. The complex fruit notes carried through to the flavor, which featured rich dark berries, subtle tropical fruit, and chocolate undertones. It was incredibly complex and evolved as it cooled to feature more of the tropical fruit notes in the cup. The coffee had a sharp lime citrus acidity and a fairly thick, syrupy body. The sweetness was incredible throughout the coffee featuring juicy, fruit-toned sweetness with honey supports.

The Bottom Line

Because of its notoriety, there has been a wide range of Wush Wush coffees featured across roasters in recent years. Similar to Geisha coffees, there is a wide range of quality and styles. This one from the Roast House was a favorite for me because it had the depth and complexity I love with a Wush Wush while avoiding some of the crazy funk you sometimes find in experimentally processed versions of the Wush Wush.
