Pros

  • Intensely sweet
  • Complex flavor profile

Luminous Coffee is doing some amazing stuff in specialty coffee and I’ve wanted to try their coffee for quite a while. I finally had the opportunity to a few weeks back and this Colombian Wush Wush really blew me away.

The coffee began with an intense fragrance that was complex, and slightly boozy in nature. It reminded me of tropical fruit, berries & citrus. A similar profile carried over into the flavor, which was intensely sweet with a fruit-forward, candy sweetness with supporting floral notes. The flavor reminded me of pineapple, red berries, and subtle florals. The coffee had a heavier mouthfeel that was smooth and juicy. The citrus acidity was sharp at the front but mellowed throughout each sip. The coffee did best in filter brews and I especially enjoyed small brews of it in my Orea.

The Bottom Line

Marcela Castellanos Colombian Wush Wush from Luminous was richly sweet, slightly funky, intensely complex and wonderfully delicious. It lived up to the hype I’d heard about Luminous and was a fun one to explore.
