Pros

  • Nice body
  • Created a consistent cup with multiple brews
  • Held up well with different brew methods

Cons

  • Burnt/sour aroma
  • Lacked on overall complexity I’ve come to expect from high-end coffees

Generous Coffee is a movement as much as it is a company. They are investing in coffee communities across South America to improve the lives of people in those regions. They “invest 100% of profits into life-changing work done by non-profits” including creating jobs for women and education for children.

With such a great company mission, I knew I wanted to try their coffee. Given how much I love what Generous Coffee is trying to do as a company, I really wanted to love this coffee. Unfortunately this one fell a bit short in my opinion. From initial fragrance to final aftertaste, it simply didn’t produce the level of quality I expect from a really good cup of speciality coffee. It was a very one dimensional coffee with a lack of complexity in flavor, aroma and acidity.

The Bottom Line

I wouldn’t try this coffee again. That said, I still love what they are doing as a company and would be willing to try a different one of their coffees, as well as find other ways to support them in the future.
