Pros

  • Wonderful complexity to the aroma and flavors throughout
  • Nice mouthfeel

Cons

  • Would have liked a bit more brightness to the cup

I love coffee and beer. When a company offers both of them, I know it’s a place I am going to like. Vennture Brew Co in Milwaukee, WI is a brew & brew that not only roasts their own coffee, but also brews their own beer. While I haven’t had the pleasure of trying their beer, I did get to sample a few coffee offerings they sent. While all of them were quite good, my favorite was the Guatemala San Pedro Necta // Chejoj. It was beautifully complex with some lovely aromas. On initial grind, there were some really nice notes of black tea and brown sugar which turned into a richer molasses flavor upon tasting with some nice subtle citrus notes. I didn’t taste the floral notes during tasting, but the other flavor notes definitely came through.

The Bottom Line

Overall this coffee was a great find. It was balanced and had some wonderful complexity I haven’t found in many Guatemala coffees.
