I had the opportunity to try an Ethiopian coffee from One Village Coffee via Crema.co back in February and was very impressed. When I saw One Village had a Cup of Excellence winner on Crema.co a few weeks back, I knew I had to give it a try. Finca Matapalo comes from the Junín region of Peru and placed 38th in the Peruvian Cup of Excellence competition last year.

The fragrance began with rounded notes of chocolate underlaid with sweet and nutty elements. In the flavor there were intense notes of milk chocolate with a mellow, rounded sweetness with muted honeydew notes. The sweetness continued to grow as the coffee cooled and became rich and creamy as the coffee approached room temperature. The coffee had an incredibly smooth body that was thick and almost syrupy. I was incredibly impressed with how balanced, clean and approachable the coffee was.

The Bottom Line

Peru Finca Matapalo was another very impressive coffee from One Village Coffee. While not the most complex coffee, it is an incredibly approachable coffee that almost anyone could enjoy.
