Disclosure: Pull & Pour received coffee samples for this post, however, as always, all opinions are 100% my own.
This El Salvadorian coffee is part of Black Sails Coffee’s “Captain’s Reserve” series, which is kept for their most special coffees. It is a Pacamara variety, which is the result from the crossing of the varietals Pacas and Maragogipe. The beans are likely the largest I’ve ever seen (so big they almost didn’t go through the Niche Flow Control disk!). The coffee was an incredibly rich, smooth cup that was exceptionally tasty.
The coffee begins with a strong fragrance of creamy strawberry that was rich, sweet and fruit-toned. The cup was smooth, creamy and full-bodied with a rich flavor profile that reminded me of strawberries and chocolate cream. The evolution of the sweetness as the coffee cooled was wonderful and the decadent, creamy fruit-forward sweetness was one of my favorite attributes of the coffee.
The Bottom Line
This Captain’s Reserve coffee has a lot going for it and if you are in the mood for a rich, flavorful cup with some wonderful complexity, this is a great one to try.
