Pros

  • Exceptional lemon notes
  • Very unique

Colombian Pink Bourbons have been an origin + variety combo I’ve really enjoyed recently. After I shared some other Colombian Pink Bourbons I’ve been loving, Flux Coffee said I had to try their Golden Washed version. I had never had a “golden washed” process, so I was incredibly intrigued. The golden washed process is something created by third-generation coffee producer Edwin Noreña. It is 280 hours of controlled, multi-stage fermentation. The result is a really unique, citrus-forward, and juicy cup that is quite delicious.

This coffee was one of the most unique coffees I’ve ever had. It was lemon-lime citrus through and through. The fragrance was strong with notes of sweet citrus and aromatics during brewing that reminded me of lemon drop candy; the flavor featured the strongest lemon notes I’ve ever tasted in coffee. The intense sweetness, sweet-tart citrus acidity, and strong lemon notes in the coffee strongly reminded me of lemonade or lemon drops.

The Bottom Line

It was a really fun coffee to enjoy and the attributes combined together to create a really enjoyable coffee that didn’t have the overly boisterous nature I’ve started to associate with some experimental processes. It was a bit one-dimensional with the lemon citrus, but that one dimension was so delicious I didn’t mind the lack of complexity.
