Pros
Greenglass Coffee Company is based in the small town of Paw Paw in southwest Michigan. For a relatively small roastery, they offer an excellent variety of coffees and have a really nice selection of single origin options. Two coffees they currently offer are from the Colombian farm, La Estrella; the difference between the two coffees is their processing (one is natural and one is washed). As with the Bean & Bean Costa Rican review from last week, it is amazing how the same origin, same farm and same coffee can produce such a different final cup simply by changing the processing method. Each of the two Geisha coffees were delicious and incredibly unique. The washed variation was a bit more balanced and approachable and while it was very enjoyable to drink, it was this naturally processed coffee that I simply could not get enough of. It encompassed all that I love in a Geisha coffee: incredible complexity, intense flavor and sweetness and delicate floral notes.
The coffee begins right away with complex intensity through a wonderful fragrance that reminded me of pineapple, tropical fruit and candied oranges. During brewing the tropical fruit and sweetness were particular evident. The flavor was stunning with strong tropical fruit, peach and floral notes taking lead. It had a medium, but robust body and an even brightness throughout. The fruit-toned sweetness was quite intense and lingered long into the finish with its sweet tropical fruit notes.
The Bottom Line
The depth and complexity of this coffee was something incredible. The intensity of each of the flavor and sweetness was a stunning combination that I enjoyed more with every brew. My only compliant was how quickly the 160 grams disappeared.
