Last year I had the opporuntity to try a Ugandan coffee from Reverent that had some incredible blueberry notes. It was one of my favorite of 2020, so I was excited to try one of their new offerings that featured a naturally processed coffee from Colombia.
From the moment I opened the bag, I knew this would be a unique and special coffee. The fragrance is incredibly sweet with slightly fermented and boozy notes. It reminded me of cherry candy in its fruity sweetness. In the flavor I tasted notes that reminded me of strawberries and incredibly strong fermented fruit. The acidity was strong throughout and the sweetness was fruit-forward and candy-like. The mouthfeel was thick and coated the mouth like milk chocolate. The finish lingered with notes of the boozy sweetness.
The Bottom Line
This Colombian is incredibly unique. It has some amazingly complex fruit notes and changes a lot as it cools. Its funky though and likely isn’t a coffee for everyone or a coffee you’d want to drink every morning. It reminded me a lot of the wild flavors and profiles I’ve experienced with experimental processed coffees or rare varieties (like Wush Wush). If you are looking for a fun, unique, fruit-forward coffee that is more affordably priced, this one should be top of your list.
