Disclosure: Pull & Pour received coffee samples for this post, however, as always, all opinions are 100% my own.
Julian Coffee is a roaster based in Puerto Rico. They focus exclusively on organic Puerto Rican and Colombian coffee at the moment and put an emphasis on paying the farm a premium for specialty grade beans.
This medium roasted Colombia coffee from the Fredonia region begins with a dark chocolate fragrance with a subtle citrus bitterness. The aroma was rich, dark and full of chocolate. In the flavor I tasted more dark chocolate and almonds in a combination that was bold, rich and robust. The coffee had a full body and slightly creamy mouthfeel. There was a nice acidity at the front of each sip, a rich chocolate sweetness in the middle and a quick finish. Overall there was not a ton of complexity in the coffee, but it did have a nice chocolate-centered profile. I never drink coffee with cream or sugar, but I think this coffee would be a great cream carrier given its rich, full body and chocolate profile.
The Bottom Line
While this Colombian coffee was roasted a bit dark for my personal preference, it was still a solid coffee with a lot of potential. I really enjoyed the rich, full profile and for anyone who prefers darker roasts with specialty coffee, this coffee is a great option to try out.
