Pros
I was recently gifted this Bolivian single origin coffee from a friend and was incredibly excited to try it as potentially the first coffee I’ve had from Bolivia. Coming from such a well-respected roaster like Intelligentsia and with the high praises of my friend, I knew I was in for a treat.
The coffee began with a mild fragrance with a lot of different notes. I smelled chocolate, apricot, raisin and a nice overall sweetness. The flavor was incredibly smooth and featured notes of sweet chocolate and a cola profile I’ve cherished in few other South American coffees. The acidity was sparkling and reminded me of the carbonation in soda (especially when paired with the cola flavor profile). The mouthfeel was incredibly smooth and well-rounded. It sweetness with smooth, strong and chocolate-toned. The finish was full of more chocolate notes and sat heavy on your tongue. I only had 4-5 brews with the coffee, so I stuck to my staple pour over methods, but it performed well in all of them.
The Bottom Line
This Bolivian coffee was a true treat. It’s sweet chocolate notes and sparkling cola profile made it a special experience to brew each time. I am excited to try more coffee from Bolivia after this one.
