This Colombian coffee from Corvus was certainly a special one. It was produced by the El Roble farm in the Antioquia region of Colombia. It was incredibly complex with a lovely, rich sweetness.
The coffee began with a sweet fragrance with strong notes of tropical fruit and subtle banana (a favorite one to find for me). It had a jammy aroma during brewing with flavor notes that were rich, sweet and full of lush fruit notes. The tropical fruit notes from the fragrance faded a bit in the flavor and instead I tasted notes that reminded me of plum, cherry and blackberries. There was a citrus-toned acidity with a lighter body, but a lush, silky smooth mouthfeel. The sweetness was richly fruit-forward with chocolate undertones. The finish lingered with wonderful sweetness and more of the tropical fruit notes, which came back as the coffee cooled.
The Bottom Line
El Roble was a delicious coffee with incredibly complex fruit notes, lots of depth and good evolution with every sip. I enjoyed it immensely and it had a well-deserved spot in Corvus’ exotic lineup.
