Luna Coffee has been on my short list of Canadian roasters to try for months, so I was excited when they got added as the May 2020 roaster for Yonder Coffee. Their psychedelic packaging definitely catches the eye, but it’s what’s inside the bag that I found really stands out.
Raspberry Butter gives itself away in its name; fruity raspberry notes and a creamy, buttery mouthfeel dominate this coffee from beginning to end. The fragrance was sweet, creamy and full of berry notes. As I brewed the coffee, the berry notes continued, but also bursts of citrus. The flavor reminded me of eating a bowl of raspberries with cream. The coffee has a smooth, buttery mouthfeel that sits heavy on your mouth and flavor notes of raspberry, strawberry, vanilla and cream. The flavor combination was amazing and incredibly delicious. The sweetness was both creamy and fruity and it had a balanced brightness that grew stronger in the finish. It did best in pour over brew methods I found.
The Bottom Line
While the coffee lacked some of the evolution and complexity I tend to expect in a coffee of this caliber, overall this coffee was incredible. It was delicious, sweet and incredibly easy to drink. I think it would appeal to a broad range of coffee lovers.
