Pros
The Yemen game from My Friend’s Coffee has always been strong. I’ve tried a few Yemenite coffees from them over the past two years and each one has been unique and yet classically a Yemenite profile—complex, lush and so much fun to explore. This one fit right in with the others and may even have more complexity than those in the past.
The coffee began with a rich, cherry & dark fruit-focused fragrance. The flavor was boisterous and almost a bit boozy with rich notes of dark chocolate, red Zinfandel, and dark fruit. The mouthfeel was smooth with a big body and rich, brown sugar and chocolate sweetness. The finish lingered with the weight of the coffee sitting sweet and heavy in your mouth after every sip.
The Bottom Line
All of the attributes of the coffee were stunning, but it’s really its sheer complexity that is breathtaking. There are so many potential flavor notes in the coffee, I could add a new one with every brew. That complexity is what makes Yemenite coffees so fun to explore and some of the best in the specialty world.
