Pros

  • Apricot flavor note
  • Fruity sweetness throughout

Cons

  • Muted aroma

Yabitu Koba is an Ethiopian coffee from the Belfast roaster, Bailies Coffee. I recently had the opportunity to try the coffee through my Yonder subscription.

The coffee began with a fragrance of dried fruit & chocolate. It was a bit lackluster in aromatics, but made up for it in the flavor and other attributes. The flavor had delicious notes of apricot and some subtle berry with a sweet brightness. Yabitu Koba had a tea-like body that was light, but not thin and a fruity sweetness that carried through the entirety of each sip. It has a sweet, floral finish that lingered.

The Bottom Line

The sweetness was really the star of the show with this coffee. It permeated almost every attribute of the coffee and helped unify the coffee. Ethiopia is likely the origin I am most familiar with and yet this coffee felt very unique. The flavor combination and overall profile of the coffee was unlike anything I have tasted recently from Ethiopia and was very enjoyable.
