ACOFFEE is a Melbourne-based roaster I recently had the opportunity to try via my Yonder subscription. Each time I brewed the coffee, I was struck by the international aspect of the cup. So many different people from across the globe were responsible for me getting to enjoy this coffee. This coffee was grown in the Guji region of Ethiopia, it was roasted in Melbourne, Australia (whose head roaster, Byoung Woo Kang, is a Korean natural). It was sent to me in St. Louis, Missouri by the US company Yonder and was brewed on a brewer designed and made in Japan (Hario v60). Pretty amazing!
The coffee begins with a sweet fragrance of tropical fruit and pineapple. The flavor was sweet, crisp and reminded me of tropical fruit and berries. As the coffee cooled, the high-intensity, tropical fruit sweetness grew in strength. The sparkling acidity was juicy and lively and the light to medium body was smooth and crisp with a sweet-toned structure. The coffee was balanced and the various fruit notes added some nice complexity. The aftertaste was a bit flat and quicker than I would prefer, but did feature some nice lingering sweetness.
The Bottom Line
Trying a coffee that so many hands around the world played a part into getting into my morning cup was a special experience. The tropical fruit notes were really the stand-out feature of this naturally processed Ethiopian and I look forward to trying more of ACOFFEE roasts in the future.
