The Wilfa Uniform Grinder is a premium, at-home coffee grinder that has gained popularity among coffee enthusiasts for its consistent grinding performance, sleek design, and ease of use. It recently made its debut in the United States market thanks to Lardera Coffee. Designed with high-quality 58mm Italian-made flat stainless steel burrs, it offers precise and uniform grinding results. With 41 grind settings, it caters to various brewing methods, though shines best in the filter grind range. Its durable construction, user-friendly interface, and removable burr set for easy cleaning and maintenance are additional features that make it a reliable choice for specialty coffee enthusiasts. In this article, we will explore the pros and cons of the Wilfa Uniform Grinder in more detail to help you determine if it’s the right coffee grinder for you.

Consistent and Customizable: Grinding with the Wilfa Uniform Grinder

The burr set on the Wilfa Uniform Grinder is one of its key features that sets it apart from other coffee grinders on the market. The grinder utilizes high-quality, 58mm flat burrs made of stainless steel, which are designed to deliver precise and consistent grinding results. The flat burrs ensure that the coffee beans are evenly ground, resulting in a uniform particle size distribution that promotes optimal extraction during brewing. The burrs are also durable and long-lasting, capable of withstanding the rigors of frequent use without losing their sharpness or performance. The Wilfa Uniform Grinder offers 41 different grind settings that range from espresso to cold brew, which are easily adjustable to achieve the desired grind size for different brewing methods. While the grind settings do go fine enough for espresso, the step size is a bit too large to really dial in a shot. I have found the grinder to work best for pour over and other filter brews. If you primarily make espresso at home, a different grinder—like the Niche Zero or Fellow Opus—would be a better choice. Overall though, the burr set and grinding performance are two of the strongest selling points for the Wilfa Uniform.

Easy to Use and Sturdy Construction: The Minimal Design of the Wilfa Uniform Grinder

The Wilfa Uniform Grinder is renowned for its user-friendly design, making it easy to use and integrate into any coffee brewing routine. The grinder features a simple and intuitive interface with only two controls: an on-off button and a dial for controlling grind size. The ring across the top is clearly marked with grind settings that allow users to easily adjust the coarseness of the grind to suit their brewing method of choice. The transparent coffee bean hopper and grounds container provide visual feedback, allowing users to monitor the grinding process. The sleek and modern design of the Wilfa Uniform Grinder also adds a touch of elegance to any kitchen countertop. Given its minimal interface, it is a grinder that would be comfortable for anyone to use—regardless of their experience brewing coffee at home.

The grinder’s compact footprint and sturdy construction make it a great choice as an everyday grinder at home as well. Its stainless steel burrs and durable plastic body are designed to withstand the rigors of grinding coffee beans on a daily basis and its non-slip base ensures it stays in place while grinding.

Cleaning the Wilfa Uniform Grinder

The Wilfa Uniform Grinder is designed with ease of cleaning in mind. The removable burr set makes it simple to clean and maintain, allowing for easy access to the grinding chamber and burrs for thorough cleaning. To clean the burrs, all you have to do is exposure the burr chamber by twisting the main chamber apart. The process takes less than a minute and given how hard it is to expose the burrs on other grinders, this design in the Wilfa Uniform should not be taken for granted.

The transparent coffee bean hopper and grounds container also make it easy to monitor and clean, ensuring that no residue is left behind. The grinder’s sleek and minimalist design minimizes crevices and hard-to-reach areas, reducing the risk of coffee grounds getting stuck and making cleaning a breeze. The combination of removable burrs and easy-to-clean design makes the Wilfa Uniform Grinder the easiest-to-maintain grinder I’ve ever owned.

A Few Misses on the Wilfa Uniform Grinder

While there is a lot I love about the Wilfa Uniform Grinder, there are a few areas it misses the mark just a bit:

  • Auto-shut-off Functionality: I think auto-shut-off is a must-have feature in a grinder and the Wilfa Uniform does include it. The auto-shut-off feels a bit clunky though and seems to lag just enough that I worry it won’t actually turn off many times. There have been a few times it hasn’t shut off at all and required me to manually turn it off.
  • Grind speed: The Wilfa Uniform was designed with a slower motor to reduce noise and prevent heat transfer to the beans during grinding. They’ve accomplished this and the grinder is very quiet compared to other automatic grinders—but it is very slow. It grinds beans at about half the speed as my other electric grinders. Usually, this doesn’t matter as I pour the beans in, turn them on, and move on to something else until they are finished. If you pushed the grinder to its 75g max though, you’d have to wait over 2 minutes for the full hopper to grind through which feels like a long time.
  • Espresso: While the Wilfa Uniform has 41 grind settings and easily gets down to espresso-level fineness, it does lack the small step size required to really dial in espresso. As a result, it works best in the filter brew range.
Buy the Grinder

Should I buy the Wilfa Uniform coffee grinder?

While the Wilfa Uniform grinder is an excellent grinder, it isn’t for everyone. At almost $300, it sits towards the premium end of home grinders. If you primarily brew filter coffee at home and want a grinder that has a relatively small footprint, is aesthetically pleasing and focuses on burr quality, the Wilfa Uniform grinder from Lardera is a great choice.

The Bottom Line

In conclusion, the Wilfa Uniform Grinder offers consistent grinding performance, user-friendly features, and a sleek design. However, it may be pricey, bulky, noisy, and have limited grind settings, which are factors to consider when deciding if it’s the right coffee grinder for your needs.
