Vacation Mode – Papua New Guinea – Yamabiko Coffee Roasters

Yamabiko Coffee Roasters is a roaster based out of Quebec with one of the most interesting names I’ve heard (Yamabiko means “Spirit of the Mountains,” which they took in honor of their hometown Sutton, Quebec, which is surrounded by mountains). Vacation Mode is a washed coffee from Papua New Guinea, an origin I am not very familiar with.

Vacation Mode was an incredibly exciting coffee from beginning to end. The fragrance begins with a complex mix of tropical fruit, berries, chocolate and even tomato—strange, I know, but it actually added a wonderful earthy richness to the fragrance. The flavor was sweet, juicy and full of tropical fruit notes. The acidity was quite pronounced and had lemon-lime citrus characteristics. The body was juicy and the sweetness full of fruit notes. The finish lingered, yet was quite crisp. The coffee is extremely complex with a nice mix of flavors, complex fruit notes and a sweetness that evolves throughout each sip.

The Bottom Line

Vacation Mode was a wonderful introduction to the Papua New Guinea origin and Yamabiko Coffee Roasters. It was an adventurous coffee with a lot of complexity and a delicious flavor profile.
