Timemore PUCKS Espresso Accessories Set Review

Andrew Pautler

TIMEMORE PUCKS set

Espresso is one of the most rewarding, yet most finicky, ways to brew coffee. The smallest inconsistencies in distribution, tamping, or puck prep can lead to uneven extractions that mute flavor or introduce unpleasant bitterness. For years, baristas have leaned on accessories like WDT tools, distributors, and calibrated tampers to smooth out variables and make espresso more repeatable.

Timemore recently entered the espresso puck-prep space with their PUCKS Espresso Accessories Set—a curated trio of tools designed to streamline puck prep and bring consistency to every shot. The set includes a WDT tool, a self-adjusting distributor, and a calibrated tamper. While espresso prep kits like this are not a new concept, the PUCKS set offers a modern, well-crafted spin on familiar tools.

In this review, I’ll break down the features of the set, share what’s in the box, and highlight what I love—and where I think it falls short—before wrapping up with my overall impressions.

Features of the Timemore PUCKS Espresso Accessories Set

TIMEMORE PUCKS set - Ergonomic design

Ergonomic Design
All three tools in the PUCKS set have been shaped with usability in mind. The WDT tool features a comfortable, magnetic handle that doubles as its storage stand, making it easy to grab and use quickly. The distributor and tamper both have wide, rounded grips that fit naturally in your hand, minimizing strain during repetitive use. The tactile feedback, especially from the tamper’s built-in click, makes puck prep intuitive even for beginners. With so many puck prep tools available that essentially do the same thing, the functional design of this set is likely its biggest selling point, in my opinion.

Sturdy Build Quality
Timemore has built the PUCKS tools to last. All three have a reassuring weight, use durable stainless steel bases, and carry Timemore’s characteristic mix of clean lines and matte finishes. Nothing feels flimsy or rushed—these are tools meant to live on your espresso bar for years. The magnetic integrations are a subtle but useful touch, keeping your prep area tidy without adding extra stands or clutter.

Functional Precision
Functionality is the centerpiece of the PUCKS set. The Orbital WDT Tool uses eight ultra-fine 0.3 mm needles to break up clumps and redistribute grounds for an even bed, which is essential for preventing channeling. The Gravity Distributor is particularly clever—it has a snowflake-inspired base that self-adjusts to your coffee bed height, meaning you don’t need to constantly fiddle with depth settings. It glides smoothly across the surface in both directions and snaps magnetically back into its holder. Finally, the Calibrated Tamper applies a consistent 30 lbs of pressure with a controlled, gradual “click.” This ensures tamping is even from shot to shot, which helps improve repeatability.

Cohesive, Unified Set
Beyond individual tools, what sets PUCKS apart is how the components work together as a system. Each piece flows naturally into the next step of puck prep, creating a consistent workflow from distribution through tamping. Rather than feeling like three standalone items bundled together, whether you get the black or the wooden set, PUCKS feels like a deliberately designed ecosystem.

What’s in the Box

The PUCKS Espresso Accessories Set includes three primary tools:

  • Orbital WDT Tool with magnetic base and ultra-fine needles
  • Gravity Distributor with snowflake-style self-adjusting base
  • Calibrated Tamper with a 30 lb click mechanism

Each tool slots into a neatly organized presentation box, making the set feel premium right out of the gate. The set also comes with replacement needles for the WDT tool and an allen wrench to use when replacing them.

What I Love About the Timemore PUCKS Espresso Accessories Set

  • Streamlined Workflow. The biggest strength of the PUCKS set is how seamlessly the three tools work together. Distribution, leveling, and tamping flow naturally from one to the next, with each step designed to remove guesswork. The set feels less like a collection of separate tools and more like a cohesive workflow designed from the ground up.
  • Magnetic Design Choices. I’m a big fan of magnets in coffee products and Timemore already uses them in smart ways in many of their products (i.e. catch cup in the Sculptor grinder). The use of magnets throughout the PUCKS set—whether in the WDT stand or the distributor’s holder—is more subtle but smart. It makes the tools easy to store, keeps your bar organized, and provides that extra bit of tactile satisfaction.
  • Consistent Results. The PUCKS set does a good job of creating a repeatable puck prep process. The calibrated tamper deserves particular praise. Knowing every puck is tamped at the same pressure adds a layer of confidence to dialing in shots. Combined with the improved distribution from the WDT and distributor, the result is fewer channeling issues and more repeatable extractions.
  • Visually Appealing. True to Timemore’s style, the PUCKS set is both practical and visually appealing. The matte black or wooden finishes, sturdy feel, and clean design make it a set that looks just as good as it functions.

What Is Lacking in the Timemore PUCKS Espresso Accessories Set

While there is a lot I love about the PUCKS set, there are a few shortcomings:

  • Feels a Bit Late to the Party. PUCKS enters a category that peaked in popularity a few years ago. While the tools themselves are excellent, the idea of a bundled espresso prep set isn’t novel at this point. For baristas who already own similar accessories, PUCKS may feel redundant.
  • Price Point. At around $199 ($150 pre-sale), the PUCKS set is on the expensive side compared to buying similar tools individually. The build quality and cohesive design justify some of the premium, but for beginners just stepping into home espresso, the cost could feel like a barrier.

Overall Thoughts & Conclusion

The Timemore PUCKS Espresso Accessories Set is a polished, well-thought-out kit that takes the fundamentals of puck prep and makes them more approachable. Each tool is sturdy, ergonomic, and effective, and together they streamline the process of preparing espresso. If you’re just starting out, PUCKS can help shorten the learning curve by standardizing key steps. For seasoned baristas, it can be a way to refresh your workflow with tools that feel as good as they perform.

That said, PUCKS doesn’t reinvent the category. These types of accessories have been around for a while, and at $199, the set won’t be for everyone. If you already have a WDT tool, distributor, and tamper you like, PUCKS may not add enough value to justify replacing them.

But if you’re looking for a unified, thoughtfully designed set that combines ergonomic design, functionality, and durability, PUCKS is one of the most refined options on the market today. Like many of Timemore’s products, it balances form and function in a way that makes daily use a pleasure—helping turn the sometimes frustrating process of puck prep into a consistent, almost effortless routine.
