What I Love About the Timemore Bricks 01S Grinder
- Extremely compact. Counter space is valuable, and the Bricks 01S occupies remarkably little of it while still feeling substantial.
- Thoughtful workflow. The magnetic cup, integrated grind adjustment, included accessories, and fines knocker all contribute to a workflow that feels polished.
- Excellent retention. While I haven’t found it to be true zero retention, it does have very little of it, especially when the fines knocker is used. This makes a big difference when grinding for single dose espresso and smaller pour over brews.
- Great value. The Bricks 01S offers many features normally found on significantly more expensive grinders without trying to overcomplicate the experience.
What Is Lacking in the Timemore Bricks 01S Grinder
- No automatic shutoff. The grinder runs until you press the button again. While not a major issue for single dosing, automatic stopping would make the workflow even smoother and has become commonplace on grinders from many other brands.
- Conical burr limitations. The grinder performs very well across multiple brewing methods, but it isn’t designed to compete with larger flat burr grinders when it comes to maximizing clarity in light-roast filter coffee. And grinding bright, fruit-forward light roasts has been one area I’ve found the grinder leaves a bit to be desired, as it mutes some of the clarity and acidity.
- Fixed power cable. Given how compact the grinder already is, it would be nice if it had a detachable power cable to make storage and travel a little easier and even more compact.
Overall Thoughts
The TIMEMORE Bricks 01S doesn’t try to be everything.
Instead, it focuses on doing the fundamentals exceptionally well.
It’s compact, attractive, thoughtfully designed, and offers a workflow that feels polished from start to finish. The combination of low retention, quality burrs, and excellent build quality makes it an appealing option for anyone looking to move into a dedicated single-dose electric grinder without stepping into the premium price range.
