The idea for Good Dudes coffee company began when founder Josh Bridges was on patrol in Iraq and had a longing for high-quality coffee that was often hard to come by. Years later, that longing for coffee coffee set the wheels in motion for Good Dudes Coffee Co.

This light roasted and naturally processed Ethiopian coffee began with a complex fragrance that was sweet and fruit-forward. I smelled notes of berries & vanilla, but also a subtle & sweet earthiness that reminded me a bit of tomatoes. In the flavor I tasted notes of raspberries, chocolate, raisins and vanilla. The flavor profile was sweet & juicy with a smooth, fairly full & lush mouthfeel. The acidity was steady throughout and not as pronounced as many natural Ethiopians (though a more approachable acidity seems to be more common in this year’s harvest across the board). The sweetness was fruit-toned with chocolate undertones. The finish was fairly quick and dry with some lingering sweetness. The cup had some nice complexity with a good depth of flavor, though not a ton of evolution throughout each sip.

The Bottom Line

The Patton, like its namesake, was bold with a big body and intense flavor attributes. It was delicious and I’m excited to try more Good Dudes coffees in the future.
