Pros

  • Bold & intense
  • Intense fruit notes & sweetness

Wush Wush coffee is always something special. It can be a bit untamed and wild, but every time I’ve had one it has been an enjoyable experience. From expressive banana notes to wildly sweet fruit notes, a Wush Wush coffee has never disappointed. For that reason, I was so excited when this Super Wush from the Canadian roaster Sorelina Coffee arrived a few weeks back. It is a Wush Wush varietal coffee from Ethiopia and was as wild as any I’ve had.

The coffee began with an extremely punchy fragrance that was sweet, fruit-toned, and reminded me of over-ripened berries and mango. It was slightly boozy and a real treat from the moment you opened the bag. The flavor was sweet & boozy with notes of mango, ripe strawberry, and chocolate. The acidity was slightly sharp at the front, then backed off and grew again toward the latter end of each sip. The sweetness was truly spectacular. It was incredibly intense with notes of sweet, ripe fruit. As the coffee cooled the sweetness grew even more and became a bit more tart with the added acidity (and reminded me a lot of Sour Patch kid candy).

The Bottom Line

This Super Wush from Sorelina Coffee fit the mold of bold & wild with some intense sweetness and fruit notes. As with all Wush Wush coffees I’ve tried, it was a bit untamed, extremely wild, and definitely not a coffee for the faint of heart. If you enjoy a big, bold coffee with lots of fruit-toned sweetness though, this is one you have to try.
