Finding and trying coffee from more exotic regions is always a special treat. The different growing conditions in a less common origin can create all sorts of unique and unfamiliar flavor notes and impact the cup profile. I’ve been able to try a variety of more exotic origins in the past, but Sirinya from Messenger Coffee Co. is the first I’ve tried from Thailand. It is a result of a new farm direct relationship Messenger has established and it did not disappoint.
The coffee begins with a sweet, floral fragrance with some subtle dried fruit notes. After brewing, roasty and subtle berry notes get injected into the aroma as well. The flavor profile of the coffee is incredibly unique. I tasted a variety of berry and floral notes, but they had a lot of depth and combined together in a way I had not experienced before. The acidity was more muted, but carried through the entire sip. The body was heavy and creamy with a dark chocolate sweetness. The finish lingered and I tasted gingerbread and other warming spices at the very end. The coffee is well balanced, clean and incredibly complex. It has a lot of flavors, a lot of depth to the flavors and overall an extremely unique and exotic profile.
I tried the coffee in a variety of brew methods and while pour over is always my go to, I was especially impressed with how the coffee did with espresso.
The Bottom Line
Sirinya is a special coffee with a delicious flavor profile. The fact that it is likely from an origin you have never tried before heightens the appeal. Messenger delivers again with a coffee that is absolutely worth trying.
