Rwandan coffees have so much potential, but many times fall flat compared to the coffee from their neighbors of Ethiopia and Kenya. As such, when I do find a high-quality, complex Rwandan coffee that is delicious, I am quite excited. This washed Rwandan from Stoble checked those boxes and was a beautiful balance between approachable and exciting.
The coffee began with a rounded fragrance of chocolate and dark fruit. The flavor was rich with notes of pomegranate and lemon at the forefront and a round, juicy mouthfeel. As the coffee cooled, it got a bit more “pop” and the heavier fruit notes gave way to a lighter, brighter profile. The sweetness reminded me of lemonade and paired nicely with the fruit and citrus-toned flavor notes. The finish was a bit dry and I wish it lingered a bit more, but otherwise had very little to fault with the coffee.
The Bottom Line
The deep fruit complexity and profile evolution through each cup made this Rwandan from Stoble a lot of fun to drink and a coffee that would appeal to a wide range of specialty coffee lovers.
