Pros

  • Lemongrass honey notes
  • Approachable, yet complex

Gary at My Friend’s Coffee has been roasting some amazing coffees over the past few months and I have been honored to get to try so many. This coffee from Panama is the first Panamanian honey-processed coffee I have tried. It had a wonderful approachable profile, while still having great complexity.

The coffee began with a lovely chocolate and nutty fragrance that was sweet with some subtle fruit notes. In the flavor I tasted chocolate, lemongrass, apricot, honey and subtle cereal grains. It had a fairly thick mouthfeel and a balanced acidity. The lemongrass notes were prominent and lingered into a sweet aftertaste. The sweetness was rich and reminded me of chocolate and honey, though it wasn’t overly pronounced.

The Bottom Line

I enjoyed this coffee because it was quite unique from the Panamanian coffees I’ve had recently, which have been much more delicate and fruit forward. Gary did a nice job bringing out the coffee’s complexity, while still keeping the coffee extremely approachable.
