Disclosure: Pull & Pour received coffee samples for this post, however, as always, all opinions are 100% my own.

Industry Beans is a roaster based Australia that started in 2010 by brothers Steven and Trevor Simmons. They now have cafes in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane and ship their coffee around the world. A few weeks ago they sent some single origin coffee for me to try, as well as some sparkling cold brew. The sparkling cold brew is fun thing to mix in during hot summer days and the single origin options were each solid. It was the complex flavor profile of this washed Kenyan coffee that really stood out to me though.

The coffee began with a mild fragrance that was slightly earthy and reminded me of chocolate, tomato and figs. In the flavor I tasted notes of rich chocolate and dark fruit. It had a sweet tart front and a dryer, dark chocolate finish. The acidity was typical for a Kenyan coffee with a tart, citrus/grapefruit-toned acidity. The body was fairly full with a smooth & silky mouthfeel. The sweetness had a wonderfully complex fruitiness with rich honey intertwined. I really enjoyed this coffee in the variety of pour over methods I threw at it and it did well with a tighter grind and higher brew temp.

The Bottom Line

My first experience with Industry Beans was excellent and this complex, sweet tart Kenyan was a treat to enjoy.
