Pros
Gesha (or geisha) coffees have been incredibly special this season and I’ve had the opportunity to try a variety of them. My favorite geishas are the ones that have the floral elements, but also something else to create a complex and exciting drinking experience. This Monte De Oro Natural Gesha from Abracadabra Coffee Co. does just that. It is wildly unique and complex with that perfect mix of floral and fruit.
The coffee begins with an incredibly complex fragrance that reminded me of chocolate and tropical fruit—it was sweet and slightly funky (in a good way). The tropical fruit notes became even more pronounced while brewing and continued to develop as the coffee cooled. The best word to describe the flavor is intense. It was sweet, rich and complex with notes of tropical fruit, pineapple, honey and a floral foundation. The sweetness was a wonderful fruit-forward sweet-tart mix of citrus and tropical fruit, which grew stronger and stronger as the coffee cooled and lingered into the finish.
The Bottom Line
The description of this coffee on Abracadabra’s site is “totally bonkers” and I think that is about right. It is an incredibly exciting coffee and given how expensive Geisha coffees can get is one of the more affordable options .
