Disclosure: Pull & Pour received coffee samples for this post, however, as always, all opinions are 100% my own.
Mexican coffees have increased in quality a tremendous amount in the past decade and no coffees show that improvement as much as the Cup of Excellence award-winning coffees. This El Equimite from Noble Coffee won 7th place at this year’s Mexican Cup of Excellence competition and is a prime example of the quality potential of coffees from Mexico.
The coffee began with a creamy, floral fragrance that was sweet with notes of brown sugar. The flavor was lively & exciting with a fruit flavor explosion that reminded me of fruit punch. It was juicy and complex with a medium body that felt elevated and decadent in its mouthfeel. The acidity was crisp and reminded me a bit of sour patch kids. The sweetness was one of the most dominate elements of the coffee with a strong fruit sweetness throughout.
The Bottom Line
Overall this was one of the best Mexican coffees I’ve ever tasted—and unlike any other Mexican coffee I’ve had in the past. It was incredibly complex with lots of flavor depth and a wonderful evolution of fruit notes as it cooled.
