Pros
Naturally processed Ethiopian coffees are my favorite style of coffee and blueberry is my favorite flavor note to find in a coffee. When I saw this Ethiopian coffee from Bassline Coffee out of Oakland, California with a flavor note of “blueberry batter,” I was extremely excited to give it a try.
The fragrance starts the experience off with a sweet bread and vanilla profile filled with blueberry notes. The flavor reminded me of dark berries and stone fruit. It featured a berry sweetness, but not overly intense. The crisp acidity and light body were complimented by a well-balanced profile. One of my favorite attributes of the coffee was the berry crumble finish; I think it is likely what Bassline labeled as “blueberry batter” in the flavor notes. It was a beautiful, lingering flavor that reminded me of a fresh berry pie in the middle of summer (a nice reminder when it was 5°F (-15°C) while I was drinking it!).
The Bottom Line
This was an incredibly tasty coffee with a really nice fruit profile. It worked in every brew method I tried and was a lot of fun to explore and find ways to maximize the blueberry flavor notes.
