Barrington Coffee Roasting Company is a roaster located in Lee, Massachusetts that has been roasting since 1993. They recently sent me a few of their coffees to try out and I was incredibly impressed with each one. Each of their coffees that I tried was unique, exciting and delicious. In this first review, I focus on a very special coffee from Nepal.

Lekali was a really special treat, but required time and effort to really dig into it. Unlike many of the African coffees I love that have big, bold flavor notes, this coffee was much more delicate. It required sitting down with the coffee and identifying what I tasted. I do not think this takes away from the coffee though. Instead, I think in this situation it added to the experience.

The coffee begins with a intricate, complex and floral fragrance. I tasted notes of raspberry, strawberry and some subtle citrus in the coffee. The coffee has a lighter body, but one that still held together. The acidity was more muted and presented itself most in the long, sparkling finish that was a great exclamation point to each delicious sip. The coffee was deeply sweet with a milk chocolate and smooth caramel sweetness.

The Bottom Line

This delicate coffee from Nepal is incredibly complex and a lot of fun to drink. It does require a bit more intentionality, which I actually enjoyed. I think the casual coffee drinker would be able to drink this coffee and enjoy it, but to appreciate it fully it requires a bit more effort.
