Pros
  • Tart citrus notes unifies cup
  • Unique flavor combination

Disclosure: Pull & Pour received coffee samples for this post, however, as always, all opinions are 100% my own.

Seth Taylor: Coffee by Design is a micro-roaster based in Toronto, Canada. This AB Kenyan coffee is from around 3,500 smallholder producer members that combine together at the Gatuya Coffee Factory. It is comprised of a blend of five different coffee varieties common to the Kenyan region.

The coffee begins with a mild fragrance with notes of sharp citrus, deep fruit and chocolate. In the flavor I tasted sweet-tart notes of grapefruit, citrus & stone fruit. As the coffee cools, the flavor smooths out and becomes even sweeter. It has a pronounced, tart acidity that carries throughout. The medium body is supported by a citrus-forward sweetness with undertones of berry.

I really enjoyed this Kenyan coffee for its unique flavor profile and the way the citrus elements in the flavor, acidity and sweetness unified the cup.

The Bottom Line

Seth Taylor sent a variety of coffees for me to sample and while all of them were excellent, I selected this coffee because it was not only delicious, but also a nice expression of a unique Kenyan coffee—different from any other I have tried this year. If you enjoy citrus-forward and fruity coffees, this is a great one to try.
