Cons

  • Requires a bit more work to dial in

Bellwood Coffee is a roaster out of Atlanta, Georgia. I recently had the opportunity to try a variety of their coffees ranging from this naturally processed Honduran coffee to a naturally processed Ethiopian and washed Guatemalan. Each one was quite incredible with unique fruit notes. This natural Honduran though joined the ranks of the many stunning naturally processed Central American coffees I’ve had the opportunity to try this year.

Upon opening the bag and grinding the coffee, I immediately smelled sweet notes of blueberry and orange zest. The flavor was incredibly tasty; it had a creamy, floral sweetness and notes of citrus zest and blueberry. The blueberry notes came through once I really dialed in the coffee and was a bit softer and creamier than the overwhelming blueberry notes you can get in a naturally processed Ethiopian coffee. The body was creamy, the brightness was balanced and the finish was long and full of floral notes.

The coffee was quite delicious from the start, but required a bit more work to really dial in and to decode the various flavors and elements in the cup. It is the type of work I really enjoy with a coffee and makes you come to love the cup even more.

The Bottom Line

While Honduras La Única Natural required a bit more work to brew perfectly, it was worth the work. It was sweet, unique and delicious.
