Pros

  • Blackberry notes are unique and delicious
  • Blackberry + chocolate notes create a nice combination
  • A unique naturally-processed coffee

I recently completed a few months of the Mistobox subscription as I was working on a review. The final coffee I received was this naturally processed Honduran coffee from Verve. I described to my coffee curator my coffee preferences (bright, fruit forward, unique) and this is what he recommended. Let’s just say he did a good job.

The coffee hits you right out of the bag with a rich, sweet fragrance of chocolate and blackberry. In the flavor the strong notes of blackberry carried through with the undertones of chocolate. The flavor had a nice, fruit-forward sweetness that grew stronger as the coffee cooled. The acidity was quite interesting; it was strong at the front of each sip, diminished a bit in the middle and then lingered in a long finish. The coffee didn’t have a lot of evolution, but the flavor and other attributes created a really nice, complex cup of coffee that worked well regardless of what brew method I tried it in.

The Bottom Line

This was an excellent coffee that was a lot of fun to explore. It reminded me of some of the other great Central/South American naturally processed coffees I’ve tried this summer and was a great first experience with Verve Coffee.
