Disclosure: Pull & Pour received coffee samples for this post, however, as always, all opinions are 100% my own.

Most Hawaiian coffee I’ve tried has been overpriced, gimmicky and overroasted. When you find quality Hawaiian coffee though, it truly can be outstanding. That’s what I’ve found with Paradise Coffee Roasters. I’ve tried a variety of their Hawaiian coffees through the years and have been impressed with all of them. This Ka‘ū Tropical Punch is a yeast fermented washed coffee with vibrant acidity and a refreshingly fruity profile.

The fragrance began the experience with sweet cherry aromatics. The cherry flows into the flavor profile where it began with more sweet cherry and transitions to more tropical fruit notes as the coffee cooled. It was richly complex with a smooth, satiny mouthfeel and medium body. The rich fruit profile is complimented with red wine and cascara notes and a candy-like intense fruit sweetness. The finish lingers and is very sweet with some bitter undertones that layer ontop of the sweetness and add to the coffee’s complexity.

The Bottom Line

While this coffee is still pricier than many (the reality of producing coffee in Hawaii), it is one of the few that is worth the money in my opinion. It’s richly complex profile and refreshing fruit notes give the coffee not only depth, but also make it delicious.
