Cons
This coffee is a naturally processed Ethiopian coffee from the Daratu Village in the Yirgacheffe region. This coffee fits the traditional mold a dry-processed Ethiopian coffee almost perfectly. It is sweet, fruit-forward & bright—and exceptionally delicious.
When I opened the bag, a strong fragrance of blueberry notes hit me right away. Below the fruit notes are notes of nuts and milk chocolate. The aroma is big, bold, sweet and was one of my favorite attributes of the coffee. As I began to drink the coffee, the blueberry notes recede just a bit and the chocolate notes become more prominent (though as the coffee cools the blueberry notes shoot right back to the forefront).
Ethiopia Daratu has a nice, balanced acidity that is much more approachable than your normal naturally processed coffee. It isn’t as intense and in your face as they tend to be sometimes. I actually prefer a stronger acidity, but for people not as familiar with this style the level of acidity in this coffee is much better.
The Bottom Line
This is a very approachable naturally processed Ethiopian coffee that gives you want you expect in a coffee of this style. It is a great option for anyone who enjoys this style and especially anyone who is interested in exploring it for the first time given how approachable it is.
