Beachcomber Coffee Company is a craft coffee roaster based in Gibsons, British Columbia. I had read about some of their coffee on CoffeeReview.com and followed them on Instagram for awhile, so I was excited to get to try a few of their coffee offerings a few weeks back.
This Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee is an organic, fair trade certified and washed coffee from the southern region in Ethiopia. The coffee begins with a slightly citrus-filled, yet sweet fragrance of chocolate and almonds. In the flavor I tasted chocolate, black grapes, almond and subtle sweetness. I didn’t taste a lot of fruit notes, but their were some more subtle stone fruit flavors below the chocolate and nutty notes. It had a medium, slightly juicy body that sat really nicely in the mouth with each sip. The coffee featured a well-rounded citrus acidity that was consistent throughout each sip. The sweetness was rich, yet a bit muted featuring notes of chocolate through each sip. The coffee didn’t evolve too much throughout each sip, but the citrus acidity and notes of chocolate were consistent from fragrance through the aftertaste.
The Bottom Line
The roast was a darker medium, so it helped bring out more of the roasty, chocolaty notes in the coffee. I think this coffee would be a great option for anyone who prefers more balanced, approachable South American coffees and coffees with a slightly darker roast profile, but is looking to explore into African origins.
