Upshot Coffee is a local roaster in the St. Louis area and one that has moved from sourcing coffee from other roasters to roasting coffee themselves. I recently had a chance to try a variety of samples from their current offerings and really enjoyed this natural Ethiopian.
The fragrance of the coffee was sweet with fruity tangerine and grapefruit notes. The flavor reminded me of red grapes & stone fruit and had chocolate undertones. It had a satiny-smooth mouthfeel and a medium body. The acidity was a bit more muted at the front but crescendoed into the finish, which featured sparkling acidity and chocolate. The sweetness reminded me very much of concord grapes with an almost grape candy quality to it.
The Bottom Line
I really enjoyed the approachability of this coffee and the concord grape sweetness was a unique attribute I haven’t found in many coffees. I’m excited to see how Upwork continues to evolve and grow as they continue to roast new coffees moving forward.
