Pros
Brandywine Coffee Roasters likely has some of the coolest bags around. They are an iconic coffee brand and one I’ve had on my list to try for a long time. I recently reviewed the Mistobox subscription service and as part of that subscription had the opportunity to try this naturally processed Ethiopian from Brandywine.
The coffee begins with a mildly strong and sweet aroma of berries. During brewing the aroma became sweeter and I smelled specifically notes of strawberry. In the flavor I tasted strong notes of fruit and berries (specifically strawberry) with a mild undertone of chocolate. As the coffee cooled the sweetness and berry notes became even more pronounced. There was a sharp acidity that was even throughout each sip and a light, tea-like body. The sweetness carried the same fruit-forward attributes as the flavor. The coffee worked well in a variety of brew methods, but I was most impressed with it as a flash brew where the aromatics, sweetness and berry notes were incredibly pronounced.
The Bottom Line
Ethiopia Shakiso Natural aligned perfectly with what I’d expect in a naturally processed Ethiopian coffee. It didn’t have many surprises, but still was incredibly delicious.
