Pros

  • Unique natural Ethiopian
  • Flavor combinations (floral + berry sweetness)

After I had seen Clementine’s coffee come up in my Instagram feed multiple times—each with a great review—I knew I had to try what the California roaster had to offer. I tried their Oh My Darling signature blend, Panama Bambito Estate and this Ethiopia Gololcha Harrar—each of which was incredibly unique and delicious. It was this Ethiopian coffee that really shined though.

The coffee begins with an incredible fragrance that included all of the flavor notes listed on the box—blueberry, milk chocolate, honey and lavendar—all wrapped together in a sweetness that united them all together.

In the flavor I tasted blueberry, dried cherries and some floral notes of rose. The floral notes became more pronounced as the coffee cooled, which I really enjoyed. The coffee had a strong, bright acidity that’s expected in a naturally processed Ethiopian coffee. The acidity lingered through each sip and ended in an otherwise fairly quick finish. The coffee was very balanced and had a smooth, medium to full body. While the coffee shined as a pour over, it also made a great single-origin espresso. The coffee had wonderful complexity and I loved the mix of floral and berry all wrapped together in some incredible sweetness.

The Bottom Line

I have tried so many naturally processed Ethiopians through the years (they are my favorite!), so I am always excited to try ones that are not only delicious, but also surprise. The unique combination of flavor notes in Ethiopia Gololcha Harrar was a special treat and well worth a try!
