Pros

  • Nice flow through the coffee (bright to smooth)
  • Well balanced

Cons

  • Sweetness more muted

I picked up this bag from ReAnimator Coffee at my favorite local coffee shop, Comet Coffee, a few weeks back. I’m always partial to naturally-processed Ethiopian coffees, so I thought I would give it a try. ReAnimator is a roaster out of Philadelphia I hadn’t tried before and I was impressed with the coffee.

The coffee begins with a slightly more muted fragrance than many naturally processed coffees I have tried. It had delicate citrus and berry notes, but nothing over the top. Those notes carried over to the flavor where I tasted citrus and blueberry notes—and maybe some pineapple citrus towards the finish. The coffee was well-balanced and did a nice job balancing the acidity with the sweetness.

My favorite part about the coffee was the path the coffee took from first sip to finish. It started with the nice, bright acidity that you would expect with a naturally processed African coffee, but then smoothed out to a really nice, chocolatey finish.

The Bottom Line

If you usually like naturally processed African coffees, there is no doubt you’ll enjoy this one. While it doesn’t have anything incredibly unique about it compared to other coffees in the same genre, it is a solid coffee and one that does a really nice job of evolving throughout each sip.
